There is hardly any rappers that are truly down to earth. Most rappers today rap about things they have not gone through and probably never will. We are in the buildin with Nauce from New Jersey. He speaks to us today on everything from the up an coming grind, everyday things like working a 9-5, studying rappers that are already famous, Joe Budden and his up coming projects.

First off tell who you are and where your from.

For starters my name is Nauce the boss, ima rapper and producer from Newark, New Jersey. Brick City USA

You being from new jersey, is the music scene alot like new york’s or does it have its own sound?

In my opinion, Jersey has its own sound but there are alot of dick riders that follow suite what NY is doing. On one end i wanna say its not their fault but ultimately it is. Coming from NJ its like NY doesnt really wanna give you any type of respect or props.

Growing up and seeing how things are ran its like we get treated like a red headed step child. Since NY is the mecca of rap and hip hop, i get the impression if you aint tryna be like them, they not gonna be fuckin with what you do to heavy, so you gotta create your own lane and make dudes respect you even though its hard.

Another this alot of rappers got skills but none of them are artists. I think alot of artists on the east coast period are just tryna be subdivisions of a G-unit or dipset and thats the problem. No one wants to be themselves or start sumthin new and thats why the east coast is in the current state that its in.

When did you start rapping?

I started rappin at the age of 12 or 13 early in grade school. You know watchin video music box with Ralph McDaniels yo mtv raps stuff like that. Listening to Slick Rick, Biz Markie, and Daddy Kane you know the greats. Seeing what they did and how they laid everything down made me wanna be like them and become an artist so thats what i did. I studied them and I grew to what i am today.

What do you bring to the hip hop game as far as style, flow, etc.

Far as style and swagg, I dont think i sound like any artist out there. I feel im an all around mc. I can talk about the hood, i could make a crazy party joint, i can talk to the ladies, i can battle rhyme, gotta a crazy flow im the whole package. Im an ARTIST not just a rapper or mixtape person.

Like I stated earlier alot of artist got skills but cant take it to the next level and thats what the game needs right now. I believe the game needs complete artists and when i say complete look at the top figures in the game that really made the most impression. Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay Z, 50 cent, Eminem, Kanye West, Snoop… those guys are artists. They can make music for anybody and i feel i can do the same thing.

Your average hot rapper on the mixtape circuit aint really got it. You got hot bars but thats all you got. If you line half the rappers in the game up side by side damn near all them sound exactly the same b/c they all talkin the same shit. granted what has not been said in hip hop but you’re delivery to it is always the new out look to it thats all im saying.

I hear you did some work for Wyclef’s Carnival or something?

Well what happened was I was cool with a kid named Reptile that was actually signed to Wyclef back in 99. He heard me and liked what I spit so he put me on a joint with him and then asked me to go down to MIAMI and perform on stage with him so i happily accepted. That was like the biggest stage i performed on it was like over 5,000 ppl out there so just to see the energy of everyone and the stars that were there was awesome. An average kid / rapper on the come up never gets to see that and that was a special moment in my career for driving to do this music even more.

“Screw it down” is that your first official single?

I actually was gonna make that my new single but i create new songs and beats all the time. Right now im at a toss up between this new joint called “Bottom Heavy” or “Long Live Hip Hop”. Right now im just puttin joints out and whateva the public clings to the most thats what im gonna run with but screw it down alot of people do feel that joint a lot.

In a rap game that at the moment is dominated largely by southern artists, how will you fit in?

Well i feel i can fit in because my songs are unique, different, and with the times. As an artist you gotta keep up with the times but still be you. Perfect example, LL COOL J. This dude been in the game since 86, 86 and switched with the times from graffiti and break dancin, to conscious rap, to the wu tang era, to the whole playa/gangsta rap era. Nit alot of ppl can do that. Granted L isnt on the sceen now but to be around this long from where he started is good business if you ask me. None of his peers that started with him are around so what does that tell you??? Change with the times but still be you. Change your game switch your style up and i know i can do that and still be true to myself.

With so many mc’s out there, does that make it easier or harder for you to get your name out there?

Now the rap game is so flooded its ridiculous. Everyone and they grandmother rappin so its difficult for anyone to take an artist serious. To get fully noticed you gotta have a crazy following or you gotta have crazy cake to pay niggaz off to spin your shit and put you on a mixtape im just being real. Thats what it comes down to. Money talks and bullshit walks. No matter how nice you are i’ve come to find out dudes aint messin with you unless you puttin cheese in they hand or you at least know somebody who knows somebody whop knows somebody.

But thats the way of the world its nothin new. Look at the movies on the temptations, ray charkles, dream girls, and the 5 heart beats. Palms gotta be greased nigga lol! Thats how you get on. But thats the game for you either you play it or you dont.

You have a couple underground videos on youtube, do you plan on making anymore?

Yea i got the do it mean video, GI JOE freestyle, rather be with you, an interview about the game, and a 50 cent impersonation / freestyle but i plan on doing more once my paper get right.

Is hip hop your main job or do you work a 9-5?

Hip Hop is always my main job but i work a 9 to 5. Ima supervisor at UPS and I gotta pay them bills cause the real world on your own is no joke. Gotta get it how you get it believe that.

Real Shit! What projects do you got now and what do you got coming?

Far as projects i got a EA SPORTS john madden mixtape with DJ STR8 Fyah coast 2 coast ballers edition, and another, cd with DJ Str8 Fyah, MIAMI MELTDOWN and a couple more projects in the work so im on my grind.

Tell us about NWO.

NWO stands for Nauce World Order thats my production company being that i do all my tracks and it also consist of some people im down with. Dj Blast, Esani Steelz, Raw Sheed, Dj Str8 Fyah. It’s pretty much my click which is future musik.

In new jersey is there alot of beef between artists or is it kept cordgially and just battling?

In Jersey there arent to many beefs that i know of ecept for probally joe buddens and ransom thats all. But i dont poke my nose into other dudes beefs feel me?? I’m all about my movement, people I roll with, and tryna make an impact in the game.

Im gonna give you some words, tell me the first thing that come to ya mind when you see them.

Hip Hop Ejay- Cool program to start off making beats. I actually started with this program and it helped me get better. Very good to help the beginning producer then you could use Fruity Loops or Reason to step your game up.

Joe budden- good lyrist, but not respected in jersey at all, and probally wont go anywhere else further in the game. I really like his skills but you cant be a king of a state where no one respects you especially if people saying you fraudin and you turn your back on your “people.” Not a good look.

50 cent- Genius whether you hate’em or love’em. That is one dude who has mastered the streets and the charts. Aside from hating on him, up and coming artists can learn from his moves {not the beefin}, but strategies to be successful in the game. Look at his start to where he’s at now. Most dudes cant see pass the stop sign on their corner and this dudes shows you if you study successful people in the game you can do what they did and possibly surpass them.

Soulja Boy- LOL! Cool kid i guess i never met him. Its a new era in hip hop this is what people wanna hear so I aint mad at him. He doing his thing whether you think he sucks or not. Basically get in where u fit in if thats what you do do it til niggaz aint messin with it no more.

nWo- The new up and coming brand of music. Here to make an impact so get ready.

Nauce the boss- The future. Just lining everything up! When I reach the right person or situation it’s mos definetly gonna be a problem for a lot of people. Be on the look out!

Anything else before we roll homie, any shout outs or drops?

I wanna shout my Homie Str8 Fyah you been holdin me down a lot i really appreciate that, Raw sheed. Esani Steelz, Dj, Blast, B Tino, Alkatraz, and everybody out there checkin forme and supportin what im doing. stay tuned and keep riding out with me we gonna make history believe that.
